Hot Grits at the 40 watt

Kevin Powell and George Wallace co-founded Hot Grits in 2003 as a three piece folk band. With the addition of drummer Alex Powell, Hot Grits evolved into a folk rock band bent on writing 3 and a half minute songs with distinct arrangements and memorable melodies. Hot Grits has played numerous shows over the past two years at venues in the Athens/Atlanta area including the 40 Watt, the Caledonia Lounge, and the Red Light Cafe with groups such as Canyon (toured with Jay Farrar of Son Volt), The Good Ship, Astra, Timber, Dirty Mittens and many more. We are always eager to play as an opening or headlining band and can easily set up billings with bands with a like-minded sound.

Grits Fans

Alex Powell (top left) —the drummer and the looks of the band— makes a fantastic batch of snickerdoodles.

Spencer Pope (top right) —bass and keyboards— has two beautiful grandchildren, Lexy and Holden, who love to watch cartoons on their grandmother's brand new big screen tv

Kevin Powell (bottom left) —mandolin, guitar, trumpet, and vocals— crochets and puts together puzzles.

George Wallace (bottom center) —guitars, banjo, vocals— has the secret recipe for hot grits mixed with lye (a traditional method of revenge for Southern women) but won't trust the rest of the band with it.

(bottom right) —we're not sure who she is, but she looks like a nice, refined lady.
